Why we are offering a new way to handle tributes
Until now, you’ve been able to record in two ways: 1) a new constituent record (if one did not already exist), enter the gift from the donor, and add a related gift to it. The related gift was the tribute. There was no way to record a one-off tribute gift from someone you didn’t also want to track as a constituent.
The new method of recording tributes makes this process simpler to understand and use. It also makes it possible to record a tribute gift without needing to create a constituent record for the honoree or deceased.
How tributes used to work compared with the new way
The table below contains an itemized list of how the old way of entering and acknowledging tribute gifts differs from how the new feature works.

How to start using it
To begin using the Tributes feature (link “Tributes feature” to Recording and managing tribute gifts), first contact firstname.lastname@example.org to request activation. Once the option to use the feature has been activated, navigate to your Settings > Gift settings page and check the box to enable it. Then navigate to Fundraising > Tributes, and you’ll see the options for creating a tribute.
On the Tributes page, you can manage named tributes, view/add/update tribute notification templates (mail or email), and process/review/print tribute notifications (by mail or email).
You can either record a tribute (link to section that shows how to do this) directly in the gift or create a new named tribute (link to section on creating a new named tribute) at any time.
What happens to your old tribute gifts if you use the new feature?
If you have been using memorial/honorary “related gifts” until now and decide to enable and use the new Tributes feature going forward, your previously entered gifts will remain in place unchanged, as shown in this example.
However, previously created honorary/memorial gifts will be backfilled and assigned to the honorary/memorial general tributes, so you will be able to search for them like any tribute gift you record using the new feature.
